About Amy

Amy has been practicing and teaching yoga on Ocracoke for almost 20 years. She describes her teaching style as being a guide for the student to explore and reconnect to their whole Self.

Amy was first drawn to yoga in college at UNC Chapel Hill. From her first class, she knew this was a path that would help her heal her scoliosis. Yoga has also given her tools to calm anxiety and focus her mind.

Amy has studied many different styles of yoga over the years; Hatha, Anusara, Purna and now a Structural Fascial exploration based on Tom Myers Anatomy Trains model. She is a perpetual student of yoga, bodywork, and life. Her most recent training was in Structural Integration Bodywork with Tom Myers, certified Rolfer, in 2014-2015.

Amy integrates her knowledge of anatomy and bodywork alignments with her teaching. The more aware you are of your individual postural patterns, the more you can help and heal yourself. Yoga is the perfect exploration of your individual patterns. "We are all unique how we carry our bodies around. Moving, standing, sitting all require an awareness of where your body is in Gravity. The patterns and habits of posture and movement either create freedom or strain/pain. It is important to know your postural pattern so you can realign to find greater ease in your body which leads to a calmer mind and a peaceful spirit."

Amy honors all her teachers - especially Todd Norian, Ann Greene, Tom Myers, Lila Pierce Brown, Paul and Sommer Sobin, Aadil Palkhivala, and many thanks to her first teacher Tracy Bogart. She is also very grateful for the work of Ida P. Rolf, Moshe Feldenkrais, Liz Koch, Erik Franklin and Doug Keller.

Amy is a registered Yoga Teacher (RYT®) whose training and teaching experience meets Yoga Alliance Registry Standards.
